On the way from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp, I have found that there are a lot of foam in my throat, and it seems that I have a cold. I prayed eagerly in my heart, hoping not to have altitude sickness. The road trip took almost 10 hours for climbing mountains and not to mentioned the hundred hair pinned roads to get to Everest Base Camp.
Everest Base Camp, 5200 meters above sea level, it is estimated that the air contains only 50% oxygen. I was still worried about my friend, because he was diagnosed with water in the lung when he was in Lhasa. Who knows that he actually fell asleep after taking an hour of oxygen in the tent. Outside the tent, Sang smoke is used to worship the Mountain God. In the tent, the hot water is cooked in the traditional way of Tibetans. It is burned with some small wooden strips and black blocks, we suspected that were Yak Dung. I thought I could enjoy the food that packaged in the afternoon. As a result of high altitude, I came to the tent, saw everyone suddenly lost appetite and all the food was discarded, what a waste.
The smell of Yak Dung smoke had already making me unwell, but our driver driver’s uncle insist to smoke in the tent. When everyone is huddled together to prepare for bedtime, Ling Ling was a brave girl, she was the only one to ask the driver to smoke outside the tent, it was a second time. I got up and said to the Tibetan woman (Tent's owner): "Auntie! The smoke was very bad, it took all our Oxygen, can you please pull it off?" In order to make everyone sleep better, the Tibetan woman thought of burning a special Tibetan incense will be a great idea, too bad Ling Ling once again got up and said : "Can you please pull it out?" In an instant, the harmonious atmosphere immediately solidified.
This night had become very long, and I was really attacked by altitude sickness. One month before departure to Tibet, I asked my friend, Madam Bai about her travel experience in Everest Base Camp. She said: "That night was unforgettable! I couldn't breathe at all, no matter how I tried to rest, It was the worst feeling in my life" Yes, I believed that other people experience could not be so real when you have experienced personally. I was in a state of very helplessness from 12 midnight to 5 am. I couldn't not sleep at all, no matter lying down, sitting, or standing,I couldn't breath at all, and breathing was extremely difficult. I tried to roll up my whole body, trying to take a bowing posture, and then take a deep breath and force it to relieve the lack of oxygen, but too bad, nothing really helped. Watching everyone sleep soundless, I looked at the clock and struggled for two hours before I woke up my friend. That has already a SOS signal for help. I was anxious to ask him to help me unravel the complicated oxygen cylinder. I couldn't help but tell him: "I felt like dying, I had to take oxygen immediately." At that moment, no one knew what happened to the oxygen cylinder, it seem like there was a leakage of Oxygen, that tank had very little Oxygen left. It was a hopeless night, I ended up to purchase a small Oxygen spray.
This night, my mood is very complicated, it is a mixture of despair, panic and sorrow; my body was cold, my lips were purple, my nails turned white, and the breathless. I was a bit unconscious, I began to fall into the river of long memories. I heard auntie Amy whispering near my ear: "Alexander, are you okay? I haven’t seen you for a while..." At that time, Auntie Amy was dying soon, her nose was stuck with tubes, and it was her 4th stage of lung cancer. There is also an oxygen cylinder besides her. I felt very sorry for couldn't help much at the time and didn't know how to comfort her and alleviate her pain. Apart from that, I thought about an accident that happened many years ago. I was almost drowned at Tioman Island. When I think of being unable to breathe, I think of the people and things of the past. When all is quiet at dead of night, people once said, when you encountering an experience of sudden death, you will remembered those loved one who passed away and all the past memories will turn up in front of you.
When I started to panic, I suddenly went to the bed of Jing Hui (our tour group leader) and told her that I couldn't breath. I felt weak and had very low self-confident. She let me lay on her and covered me with her quilt. Instead, I sat on the small stool and closed my eyes. Jing Hui once said that every time when she come to the base camp, there will be 50% chances that she had difficulty to sleep. She usually meditated and read Buddhist scriptures by heart, sitting down and adjust her breathing (deep breath). However, this night I felt very grateful for her accompaniment , I have to admit that I had become a bit emotional, lack of oxygen made me very uncomfortable. That's what happened during one night at the Everest Base Camp. Under the faint light bulb, we looked at the Tibetan woman and looked at the little baby that slept soundless besides her mum until reaching the dawn.
I regretted for not taking Rhodiola concentrated powder on time. For the following road trip, I've learnt my lesson, I took slightly higher dosage of Rhodiola concentrated powder, my body recovered very fast, this herb had the effect of removing lactic acid by-products of anaerobic metabolism by improved blood circulation and increased the Oxygen level in body. I noticed there was an increase of energy level, reduced of tiredness and dizziness.
This was a small story from my Tibet trip a couple of month ago. I hope you enjoy this story. For the past few months, our clinic has invented an ointment called "Wild Carrot herbal Vaseline", this product designed to treat psoriasis, eczema, urticaria, insect bites, skin cracks and other stubborn skin problems. It is suitable for those who suffered from very dry skin, scratched, damaged skin with itchiness and pain.
Thank you for your support, I wish you have a healthy body and have a blissful life.
